Cage Nuts provide a simple but effective captive nut solution. This allows the nut to be held in place so the screw can be engaged later in the assembly process, or if access is not possible from both sides. The square nut floats in the cage allowing for mis-alignement of panels in assembly.
Cage nuts are most commonly used in data rack frames for mounting various equipment modules, however they can also be found in electrical equipment, lighting systems, audio setups, etc.
