How the test function works?
Ensure that the socket outlet is wired correctly (use socket outlet test). Plug the unit into the 120V socket outlet under test, press the yellow button ,  If the does not trip, then the may be faulty, or not wired to the socket outlet being tested.

THIS ITEM CAN NOT DETECT EARTH NEUTRAL REVERSE.

All wiring should be carried out by a Electrical Contractor, Do not leave the Tester plugged into a socket outlet for more than 2 hours.
