Nichrome Wire, so called because of its composition from Nickel (approx.60%) and Chromium (approx.15%) is also often called Resistance Wire. It is for use in applications requiring a heating element and is also often used for ignition in applications such as fireworks/pyrotechnics. The wire has excellent resistance to corrosion also.
Nichrome Wire used at operating temperatures up to 1200oC. Its chemical composition gives good oxidation resistance especially under conditions of frequent switching or wide temperature fluctuations.
Applications include heating elements in both domestic and industrial appliances, Hot Wire Cutter/Foam Cutter/Heater Wire/Element Wire and in control resistors.
