Step Up Ring or Step Down Ring to choose for your camera? Now that you have seen how to install a thread converter ring, what type do you need – Step Up Ring or Step Down Ring? A Step Up Ring is most often used with lens accessories for the camcorder. You will use a Step Down Ring to attach accessories that have mounting threads that are larger than the front filter threads on your camcorder.

- There are two types of Step Rings - step up ring and Step Down Ring. Step Up Ring is used for attaching larger filters to smaller lenses. Step Down Ring is used for attaching smaller filters to larger lenses.
- For a Step Down Ring, the larger number (the "from" number) is the male side, and the smaller ("to") number is the female side
